Sun Outdoors Mobile App
For this school project, my team was tasked with designing a mobile app that would encompass each step of planning a trip, from ideation to booking the lodging and transportation.
Our client, Sun Outdoors, is a company that owns and operates resorts and campgrounds across the US and Canada. They offer services like RV rentals, vacation home sales, and trip booking.
Broad goal: Designing a mobile app to reduce the stress of trip planning for Sun Outdoors' customers
Role: UX Designer (school group project)
Contributions: Requirements gathering, competitive analysis, user workflows, high-fidelity mockups
Duration: 1 month
Objectives and workflow ideation
We first outlined our objectives for this project:
01
Make the trip planning process easier and less stressful
02
Encourage users to stay at Sun Outdoors locations
03
Build brand loyalty and increase revenue
To begin ideating on what the workflow for the app would be, we asked ourselves two guiding questions:
What are the logical steps that the user will take when they navigate through the app?
What are the user's needs when creating and planning a trip? How can we integrate these into our design?
Competitive analysis
In order to gain a better understanding of existing applications for planning trips and what they offer, we explored and assessed a few different mobile apps to see what strengths or areas for improvement they had.
We ultimately decided that in terms of features, layout, and usability, we thought Roadtrippers was the strongest mobile app out of all of the competitors we had looked at.
Design iterations
Sun Outdoors provided us with a some basic design assets to use, such as the color palette, typography styles, and the logo. From there, we created high-fidelity mockups for our app and presented them for initial feedback. Using the feedback we got from the design review, we made improvements to our original design.

Final designs
After multiple design iterations and feedback along the way from the client, we presented wireframes of our final design for Sun Outdoors.
